The Obstacle Is The Way

The Obstacle Is The Way: The Timeless Art Of Turning Trials into Triumph, is a book by Ryan Holiday and it was published in 2014.

We are stuck, frustrated, stymied but it needn’t be this way. There is a formula for success that’s been icons of history- from John D. Rockefeller to Amelia Earhart to Ulysses S. Grant to Steve Jobs. A formula that lets them turn obstacles into opportunities. These people are not extraordinary bright, lucky or gifted. Their success came from endless philosophical principles established by the Roman emperor who seeks to enunciate a method for excellence in any and all situations.

This book reveals the formula for the first time and shows us how we can turn our own hardship into an advantage. Holiday discovered that the difference between the successful and the unsuccessful is not a skill but methods for dealing with obstacles. This book is arranged into three parts.

First ‘PERCEPTION’, our perception is how we clarify the objective events of life. It can be a source of courage or a source of failure.

You will come over obstacles in life – fair and unfair. And you will discover, time and time again, that what matter most is not what these obstacles are but how we see them, how we react to them, and whether we kept our composure.”- Ryan Holiday

Whenever you are facing obstacles you need to be objective, control your emotions, have perspective, and focus on what can be controlled.

Second ‘ACTION’, sometimes you feel bad about your situation, you can’t able to do anything and it’s ok to be felt like that. But the problem arrives when you stay too long in that situation, if you want to get out of that bad situation you have to do something about it because no one will do that for you.

You have to take action and if you are going to put your efforts means you have to practice Persistence, Iterate, Follow the process, and don’t worry about how you look or how your situation is; Focus o getting the results, YOUR GOALS.

Third ‘WILL’, perception is the discipline for the mind, Action is the discipline for body, and Will is the discipline for the heart. Having a strong will allows you to go through adversity along your journey. To cultivate Will, you need to anticipate failure, accept what’s outside your control, love everything that happens, persevere, prepare to start again.

I suggest that you must read this book, this book will give you new ideas to face your challenges.
