ACHIEVING SELF-DISCIPLINE WITH THE PERFECT MINDSET

“The successful person has the habit of doing the things failures don’t like to do. They don’t like doing them either necessarily. But their disliking is subordinated to the strength of their purpose.” – E.M. Gray

Since our childhood, we have listened that we must have the self-discipline to succeed in our life, and we might have ignored that from time to time but today, self-discipline probably has more meaning than it did back then.

Let me tell you one thing that if you are looking for a definition or something then maybe you’ll not get it because there is no such perfect definition of self-discipline exist.

So, what does self-discipline mean?

It’s simple, self-discipline is about finding a reason to do something then committing yourself to do that task until and unless it gets over. Because of this one attribute, you will see the difference between the greats and the averages, the difference between the successful and the normal people.

The reason why many people are successful is that they have discipline in their life.

Without self-discipline, we will return back to giving up. Whether you’re aware of it or not, we’re all headed towards anarchy. That’s the natural direction of life.

Look, life is far from perfect. We will never have the perfect situations to work in. You know you wish you lived in a residence on the beach. you wish it never rained when you wanted to go outside.  It’s all fun and games. But in life, you must do what you can with what you have.

What does it take to achieve something?

99% of people are not willing to do what it takes to make their dreams come true; everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die. You cannot win the war against the world if you can’t win the war against your own mind.

Everybody wants to be better; they want to improve but they don’t succeed because they don’t have any genuine reasons for the improvement. You want to improve yourself, good. But you need to have a reason to improve. Why do you want to get better at a particular skill? What do you want to use it for? Why do you want to get in shape? What will you do when you’re fitter?

I think that self-discipline is the definition of self-love. self-discipline is the center of all the success stories; you cannot win the war against the world if you can’t win the war against your own mind.

So, what does self-love mean?

Self-love is when you say to yourself that hey man, I can let you eat that pizza because if you eat that you will feel like crazy, I love you too much to let you eat that. Self-love is, hey I know you have tested on Monday and I know you really want to go out with your friends but if you failed that test you will not feel good about yourself though, you know I love you too much to let you go out.

Self-discipline is self-love, if you want to be happy then you have to love yourself, you have to discipline your behavior.  Make a list of tasks that you have to do by the end of the day and note down how many of them you have completed or how many of them are still left to do and what are mistakes you have done.

If you find mistakes that you have made, then try to make them correct and don’t ask other people’s opinion, because people’s opinion is a really bad way to determine how we feel about ourselves.

Our own judgment is important towards us rather than asking for others, it might not be enough to find out our mistakes but if you go for people’s judgment you might only get disappointment, because they will only focus on finding your mistakes and the other wrong things, but if you are being honest with yourself and asking questions to yourself then your opinion is the only thing in this world that matters.

Find the work that you are truly passionate about!

Sometimes you might have heard people saying “hey buddy you are good in this”, same goes with the bad opinions too, and at a certain point in time, you actually think that what if I am able to do these things. Once, I too use to think in the same way just because many people are doing certain things so I should also do the same to be like them. But I was wrong, being self-disciplined means, we have to focus on our interests, skills (whatever you call it) & the area where you can improve and try to build yourself as a master of that particular field where nobody could challenge you because you have that talent and mastered it.

Now don’t think that you don’t have any talent, everyone does. You just have to find it, and if you are very much confused about it then focus on the skills that you have developed or want to develop in your life and master it. And never try to compare yourself with others because if you are getting disappointed by seeing others having a good life and thinking I should also do this because it will give me the same life that others have, then my friend maybe you are not thinking in a right way.

Don’t copy others’ talent because TALENT comes naturally, focus on the skills which will take you to your goals. Find them and start working on them because whatever it might be skill can only be developed by hours and hours of beating on your craft.

Build yourself step by step

Because, you don’t try to build a wall. You don’t say I’m the biggest, baddest, greatest wall that’s ever built, you don’t start there. You say I am gonna lay this brick as perfect as a brick can be laid.

There will not be one brick on the face of the earth that’s gonna be laid better than this brick that I’m gonna lay in the next 10 minutes, and you do that every single day because without CONSISTENCY you will never finish, it will only happen if you are consistent about your work and then soon you have a wall.

And don’t get scared by just looking on your dreams and thinking how big it is, because it’s difficult to take the first step when you look how big the task is.

The definition of who I am is very clear to me and it also redefines who I want to be, I am stronger than I thought I was, you know you can’t help but ask yourself the question, what would I do if I was in Muhammad Ali’s shoes(whatever the situation you like, put yourself in that person’s situation as yourself what would you do? ).

I CAME ACROSS THIS SPEACH FROM A YOUTUBE VIDEO AND I WANNA SHARE THIS WITH YOU

“Now I’m sure in your experiences in school and applying to college and picking your major and deciding what you want to do with life. People have told you to make sure you have something to fall back on, make sure you have something to fall back on love, but I never understood that concept TO having something to fall back on. If I’m going to fall, I don’t want to fall back on anything. I don’t want to FALL FORWARD, I figured at least this way I will see what I’m going to hit.”

Have The courage to take the risk!

I think that nothing in life is valuable unless you take RISKS. NOTHING…  Nelson Mandela said: ” there is no passion to be found playing small and settling for a life that’s less than the one you’re capable of living”. Take chances don’t be afraid to fail.

There is an old IQ test nine-dots, where you had to draw 5 lines with a pencil within these nine dots without lifting the pencil. The only way to do it was to go outside the box, so don’t be scared to go outside the box, don’t be scared to think outside the box, don’t be afraid to fail big to dream big, But remember… Dreams without goals are just dreams, you can either live your dreams or live your fears and I think the majority of the people actually are not living their dreams but are leaving their fears.

So, I want to ask you a question what are you fears? what is that you are afraid of? what are you scared of?

We all have fears, we all have something that’s blocking us, that’s holding us back and as we began to look at life what we realize is that the reason that most people are not living out their true potential and not doing all of the things that they would really like to do is because of fear. When you face your fear it’s not as you think it is.

The comfort zone trap!

Whatever you want to be in your life you have to work more for that, take yourself out of your comfort zone. One of biggest reason for not coming out of your comfort zones is fear – fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of speaking, fear of taking risks. You need to let go off your fear because if you don’t, you will live in the same cage in which you are living now.

But this cage is also breakable because it’s made by your conscious, and the day you will take control of your conscious is the day you will break out of it.

You might or might not have read other blogs and in those you have found out that for self-discipline you have to create good habits and avoid bad habits in your life and I agree on that, but let me tell you In this article I am focusing on the mindset which you have to build, and to make you realize that we all have self-discipline in our lives but after certain period of time we forget that.

Whatever you do to improve your self-discipline either it’s about making new habits or improving the current one but make sure you have consistency on that because only consistency will make you help build the mindset which you require.

I can refer you some books if you like to read on self-discipline, Mindset: The New Psychology Of Success, No Excuses! : The Power of Self-Discipline, The Little Book Of Big Change: The No-Willpower Approach To Breaking Any Habits, and there are a lot of books which you can find out anywhere.

“It all about mindset, if you succeed in making a good mindset towards self-discipline you will succeed LIFE”.
